Congrats...

Hey y'all! Happy Monday! Hope you have a great week! :)

So, I'm swinging on in today to share a card I made. When I was doing my commenting, I came across Darnell's blog and saw she has a NBUS challenge going on. Well, I missed the others. So, when I saw this, I told myself I needed to play along! ;)

Here's what I came up with.

Everything is new and never used before, except the sentiment and cardstock. Hopefully, that doesn't disqualify me from playing along?... ;) For a Christmas gift, I received some new sequins and stamps/dies. What better way to put them to use and get my creative juices flowing, than to play along!

For my card I went with making a faux shaker. I was just having some fun with it. I don't even know anyone who's expecting! lol So how that came to me, I couldn't even tell you! ;)

Okay. Now I want to ask a question. If you wouldn't mind helping me out?...See my photo above. How does it look to you? Is it too dark? Too light? Just okay?...I just bought a new laptop and I know it's different from my desktop. Though, I can't figure out if my desktop colors are off or if my laptop's off. Both screens are different and for me, I can't tell which is better or not so good. How do things look on your screen?...

Thanks so much for stopping by and your help!
Have a great week! I'll be back soon with some more news! ;)

  3. Hi Shelly! First of all, thank you so much for playing in and promoting my NBUS Challenge #3!! I think your card is darling with that adorable plaid whale! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes feels like the cards are making themselves with a little help from me. Obviously, this card wanted to be ready for when that special occasion comes along!

About the photo. I, too, have both a laptop and a desktop and the photos are really different on each. For me, my desktop view shows the photos in a much better fashion. For your card, on my desktop, I think the white could be a little lighter/brighter if you have that feature in your photo editing software. I use Picasa for mine. Also, since you asked, I think in this case your chevron background is too bold and busy and it's competing for my eye's attention away from the sweet whale. A plain or less bold pattern background would also make the card look better as the only star of the show. I hope that made sense! IMHO, of course!! Have a great day and I hope those mojo juices keep on flowing!! Hugs, Darnell

  8. Also, if that was my card I might brighten it just a bit, that being said, I really don't care for photos of cards that are washed out with brightness...like and instagram filter.

  9. Your card is so cute Shelly! I love it! I was struggling yesterday with taking a decent pic of a card with bold contrast. White and dark purple. If I get the purple to look not black, the white is just so sharp. I also need help! LOL
Anyway regarding your photo, I think Darnell is spot on!

  10. This is super cute! I love the smaller size shaker! And you said faux shaker... does that mean you glued the sequins in place and it doesn't have a window? Either way...it's TOTALLY adorable! Love it! As for the photo...I would brighten it up a bit. I have a similar struggle, as I use both a PC and a Mac and my photos show MUCH more clearly on the Mac. As for the note about the background...If you bring your card forward just a bit and set your depth of field so that the background is blurred just a bit, your card will be even more of a focal point, but to be honest, I wasn't distracted by it. I do LOVE this card super lots!

  11. Totally adorable!!! I agree with Jingle with brightening it up a bit although I didn't see any problems with your photo. I tweek my photos so much that they almost go blurry - bad habit LOL!

  12. Hi Shell. I just love this adorable card. It is beautiful and adorable. That little paper pieced whale is just so adorable. Your card stands out in the photo, so that is good. It looks bright although the background looks a little dark. I am no expert. Feel free to give me tips on my photos on my blog! I want to improve too!

  18. Ooooo! A paper pieced whale! It's just so stinkin' adorable! In terms of the photo, I think it's perfectly acceptable, but might take a little brightening well. I, personally like the use of bold contrasting backgrounds, but when I use them, I always try to pull the card forward and leave plenty of space so the camera focuses on the card and slightly blurs the background.

  19. Love this card, Shelly! I fight with my photos all the time - they'll look good on the computer screen, terrible in Photoshop, better in my Canon editing software, okay back on the computer screen as a JPEG, okay in Picasa, and then I upload and they look PINK! Or YELLOW! I can't win, lol! Your photo looks fine to me, it could be brightened, but as it is works for me.
